The Hawk In The Corner
by Valery Loots
You shouted so there is no need for me to sigh.
You got it so there is no need for me to cry.
Everything has been handled.
Everything but everything behind my eyes.
A tick of the clock takes a year of my life,
as the hawk in the corner waits for a sign.
to push me,
to poke me,
to break my spine,
just to remind me it will never be mine.
I have overfilled the designated time
dedicated to bouncing back fine,
committed the sin of remaining
harrowed
and distraught,
falling behind
on an expired deadline.
